This page explains the shared rules for viewing, introducing and reusing maps on this site. Each article retains its own source, reference period, units and aggregation conditions.
Map bases and statistical data
Japan map base: The prefecture-selection map on the home page uses Geolonia’s “japanese-prefectures”, with colors, regional selection and article links added by this site. It is based on “Map of Japan.svg” by Lincun. Geolonia distributes this version under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). Reuse of the map base and its modified portions is subject to that license. See the distributor’s page and the GFDL.
Background maps and boundary data within articles come from different providers. Check the credits displayed on each map and the source and terms stated in the article. The Geolonia notice above does not apply automatically to every map on the site.
Statistical source data: We aggregate and visualize public statistics and other data. Rights and terms for the source data remain with their providers. This site does not acquire those rights or grant blanket permission for reuse.
Quoting and reuse
Rights in the site’s original writing, editorial arrangement and protectable visualization elements belong to this site or their respective rights holders. Rights and licenses for third-party maps, data and software remain unchanged.
Links to articles are welcome. When quoting, clearly identify the quoted portion, keep it to what is needed, and name the site, article and URL. For map images or screenshots, keep credits, legends and reference periods visible, and avoid cropping or editing that changes the meaning. Attribution alone does not permit every form of republication.
Except where allowed by law or the applicable license, please contact us before reproducing a full article, redistributing or embedding a map, or republishing material commercially. Inquiries and replies are handled in Japanese only.
Updates and corrections
When new statistics or corrections are released, we review and update pages in stages. Topics are not all updated at the same time, and older editions may remain available for comparison. A data reference period or release date may differ from an article’s publication or update date.
Confirmed errors are corrected. Changes affecting values or interpretation are identified in the relevant article. Missing values, rounding, aggregation methods and regional definitions are also explained in the article where needed.
Languages and use of AI
The site covers the same themes in Japanese, English, Spanish, German and French. Source materials are mainly Japanese public statistics. Translation differences and timing gaps may occur, so check the reference period, definitions and original source noted in each article.
AI may assist with data-processing code, maps, translation and editing. AI output is not treated as a statistical source. We compare the work with original materials and perform a final human review before publication.
Using the information
Maps are a guide to regional differences and change. Simplified boundaries and locations, aggregation error, external-data updates or the viewing environment may cause differences from actual conditions. We do not guarantee completeness, accuracy, currency or suitability for a particular purpose.
Do not rely on this site alone for investment, medical, legal or safety decisions. Confirm opening hours, locations and travel information through official sources. General limitations and privacy practices are described in our Privacy Policy.
