How Has Station Usage Changed in Hokkaido?
This map displays passenger data from three different years:
- 2019 – Before the COVID-19 pandemic
- 2021 – A period when travel patterns changed dramatically
- 2023 – Showing how station usage has evolved since then
Some stations have gained passengers, while others have seen a decline.
The reasons vary from station to station and from region to region.
Rather than looking only at the numbers, compare stations that catch your interest and discover Hokkaido’s unique railway network.
What I Discovered While Creating This Map
I created this map because I wondered what it would look like if station passenger data were displayed across Hokkaido.
As I explored the map, I noticed just how far the railway lines extend across the island.
If there had been a railway line that circled the entire island, I think I would have loved to take that journey someday.
As you explore the map, what places would you like to visit?
