This map displays passenger data from three different years:

  • 2019 – Before the COVID-19 pandemic
  • 2021 – A period when travel patterns changed dramatically
  • 2023 – Showing how station usage has evolved since then

Some stations have gained passengers, while others have seen a decline.

The reasons vary from station to station and from region to region.

What I Discovered While Creating This Map

As I explored the completed map, I was amazed by how densely railway lines cover the Kanto region.

Even beyond central Tokyo, stations spread across neighboring cities and prefectures, creating one of the world’s most connected railway networks.
