About the Koshinetsu Region
The Koshinetsu region is made up of Niigata, Yamanashi, and Nagano prefectures. The name comes from the old provincial names: “Kō” for Yamanashi (Kai Province), “Shin” for Nagano (Shinano Province), and “Etsu” for Niigata (Echigo Province).
Niigata faces the Sea of Japan, Yamanashi lies near Mount Fuji, and Nagano is home to the Japanese Alps — each prefecture has its own distinct scenery. Many visitors come from overseas for mountain sightseeing, skiing, and hot springs.

What We Noticed While Making This Map
Looking at the number of medical institutions in the Koshinetsu region, what stood out to us was that general clinics increased once and then decreased again.
Hospitals and dental clinics have also decreased, and we found that, even within the same Koshinetsu region, the scale of change differs by type of medical institution.
