About the Chubu-Hokuriku Region
In this article, we group Toyama, Ishikawa, Fukui, Gifu, Shizuoka, Aichi, and Mie — seven prefectures — together as the “Chubu-Hokuriku region.”
From the Hokuriku towns facing the Sea of Japan, to mountain-ringed inland areas, to Pacific-side cities and coastal regions, the terrain and climate differ greatly from prefecture to prefecture. Places such as Nagoya, Kanazawa, and the area around Mount Fuji draw many visitors from overseas.

What We Noticed While Making This Map
Looking at the number of medical institutions in the Chubu-Hokuriku region, what stood out to us was that general clinics have increased. Since 2021, however, the increase has been very slight, and the number has settled close to level.
Hospitals and dental clinics, on the other hand, have decreased, and we found that, even within the same region, the type of medical institution shapes how the numbers move.

“Before, during, and after the pandemic” is a simple way of distinguishing the three time points for comparison. It does not mean that the change in the number of medical institutions was caused only by COVID-19.
