About the Chugoku Region
The Chugoku region is located in the western part of Honshu, Japan’s main island, and is made up of five prefectures: Tottori, Shimane, Okayama, Hiroshima, and Yamaguchi. In Japanese it is called “Chūgoku-chihō” (“Chugoku region”), which is different from the country China, even though the two share the same word “Chugoku” in Japanese.
The Chugoku region includes cities such as Hiroshima and Okayama, towns facing the Sea of Japan, areas along the Seto Inland Sea coast, and mountain districts — a wide variety of places. Depending on where you go, the distance to the nearest medical institution and how you get there will change.
If you fall ill while traveling or staying here, finding a hospital or clinic in unfamiliar surroundings is not always easy. If you suddenly get a toothache, it also helps to know where the nearest dental clinic is.
