About the Kyushu-Okinawa Region
The Kyushu-Okinawa region is made up of eight prefectures: Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki, Kagoshima, and Okinawa. Southwest of Kyushu, across the sea, the islands of Okinawa Prefecture continue on.
Cities such as Fukuoka, areas with hot springs and volcanoes, coastal towns, and many remote islands — the Kyushu-Okinawa region includes a wide variety of places. Okinawa Prefecture consists of subtropical islands, so the distance to a medical institution and how you get there also change depending on where you go.

What We Noticed While Making This Map
Looking at the number of medical institutions in the Kyushu-Okinawa region, what stood out to us was that general clinics increased once and then decreased again.
Hospitals and dental clinics have also decreased, and we found that, even within the same Kyushu-Okinawa region, the scale of change differs by type of medical institution.
